Relief for Kandi areas, Slathia launches tube well project

JAMMU, DEC 9: Minister for Industries and Commerce, Mr. Surjit Singh Slathia, today laid the foundation stone of a Tube Well in Budhwani Khad, Vijaypur, to be dug up at a cost of Rs 50 lakh. Nearly 20,000 people of Sungwal, Budhwal and adjoining area of Kandi belt would benefit.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Slathia said that the Government is committed to upgrade the basic amenities available to the people. He said that substantial funds have been earmarked for development of power and PHE sectors, adding that efforts are on to intend the reach of essential facilities to every nook and corner of the State.

On the issue of shortage of drinking water in Kandi areas, Mr. Slathia said that due to continuous dry spell, the ground water level has been affected and added that climate change does not respond geographically but affects every area, as such we should not consider it anyone else’s concern and sleep over the issue. He asked the people to work up to the call of the time and contribute extensively to revoke the damage caused to the environment and eco-system.

The Minister said that time is ripe to work out a comprehensive strategy and take measures to protect the ground water and environment of the State. He said that awareness among people about water harvesting and replacement of ground water needs to be generated so that the water table is recharged. “Rain water, harvesting model implemented in Rajasthan and other dry areas needs to be replicated in the Kandi areas of Jammu”, he said.

Mr. Slathia instructed all the concerned officers and engineers to not shirk from field visits for ascertaining ground development needs of their areas. He said that people have high expectations from the Government and asked them to work hard in mitigated the problem of the people.

Earlier, the Minister visited Ranjari village and inspected ongoing development works in the area. He instructed the Power Development Department to installation of power transformer in the village within a week’s time.

The District Development Commissioner, Samba, Mr. Sourab Bhagat, SSP, Samba, Mr. Raghubir Singh and senior officers of the PWD, PHE, RDD and PDD are also accompanied the Minister.
