| Dowry death victim’s mother cries for justice | | | Early TImes Report Jammu, Dec 9: Monika Choudhary 20 was found mysteriously dead at her matrimonial home at Vijaypur on intervening night of 27 October, 2009. In a bid to highlight the inaction and alleged biased attitude of Vijaypur Police which has so far failed to take any action against the guilty persons who enjoy strong political clout, alleged parents of Monika.
Monika was married to Sandeep Choudhary son of Jagdish Choudhary of Ward No. 13, Vijaypur Tehsil District, Samba on March 3, 2009 at Jammu. “Ever since her marriage the in-laws keep her harassing for not brining the dowry as per their wishes. She was tortured and told repeatedly to bring huge cash and a four wheeler”, alleged her mother.
She alleged that Monika was eliminated in a conspiracy by poisoning her on the intervening night of 27 and 28 October, 2009 and the news was kept secret and on 28th “we came to know about her killing” parents of Monika said and added “Prior to our knowledge the culprits had destroyed important piece of evidence including clothes on the body of the deceased and had put another dress on her. Vijaypur police came on spot and the in-laws of Monika resisted the post-mortem but we pressed for the same and the was initially conducted twice at GMC, Jammu. Although we were not told the findings of the post-mortem but reliably it has been learnt that the cause of death is due to a poisonous substance”.
Vijaypur Police which did not lodge any FIR but started inquest proceedings U/S 174 Cr. P.C to ascertain the cause of death has so far acted in a manner that indicates only one thing that there is a deliberate attempt to shield the culprits as they are highly influential and are from timber mafia. Despite the lapse of more than forty days the accused are roaming and we have lost confidence in the credibility of the local police. Even SSP Samba appears to be biased and is not acting in a manner expected from him. “We the aggrieved parents of Monika have met the senior officers of the Police Department but there is no head way in the case and the sole reason is the high connections of the accused. No single arrest has been made so far and we have lost faith in the local police which apparently is dancing to the tune of the accused persons who feel themselves above law. Since we have lost faith the case should be entrusted to a SIT of officers having impeccable integrity. In regard with same also demand suspension of SSP, Samba and SHO, Vijaypur.
Monika’s parents added “Our fervent appeal through this press conference to the State Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah who is also the Home Minister of the State to show his indulgence in the matter and constitute a high level special investigating team headed by an officer of the rank of SSP/DIG to probe the killing of our young daughter who was a bride of few months only. We are hopeful that the matter will be investigated after the intervention of the Chief Minister and in case the law failed to take its own course, we will approach the court of law for seeking a CBI probe into the matter.
