| J&K Bank qualifies for Fed Cup Football | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Dec 9: The Jammu and Kashmir Bank, the only professional side in the state, created history by qualifying for the important Federation Cup Football Tournament to be played at Guwahati in Assam from December 15.
The J&K Bank entered into the top 19 group of teams taking part in the important event after the side won the North Zone Championship held at Gurgaon in Haryana from November 20 to November 27.
“The mood of the team is upbeat and the boys are set to make a new beginning in the game at the national level by making it into the Federation Cup. The Federation Cup league competition shall take place in Assam from December 15. To reach the venue well in time, the Bank team shall proceed for the venue tomorrow,” member J&K Bank Sports Board, Mohd Amin Bhan told SAN.
While five teams have qualified from zones, other 14 teams belong to the elite group of A Division National League.
“These teams have been divided into two groups for league competition, followed by the semi-finals. The group represented by J&K Bank have teams like Mohamadan Sports, Mohan Bagan, Mahindra United, Churchill Brothers, Goerge Telegraph Kolkatta and NISA Manipur,” informed team manager, Zahoor Ahmed Teli.
Led by goal-keeper, Vikramjeet Singh, the team shall be accompanied by chief coach, Abdul Majit Kakroo and assistant coach, Manzoor Dar.
Meanwhile, Chairman of the J&K Bank Sports Board, Ajit Singh today called on the team and interacted with the players. He motivated the boys and boosted their morale ahead of the prestigious event.
