Early Times Report Srinagar Dec 9: A youth committed suicide at Leh in Ladakh region of Jammu and Kashmir, official sources said here today.
They said one Jigmat Wanchok, a resident of Martselang hanged himself at Thiksay, Leh.
However, before he could be rescued, he died, they said adding it was not immediately known why he took this extreme step.
This was perhaps first such case in the Ladakh region. However, it was common in the Kashmir valley where despite fatwa against it by the Muslim ulmas, at an average of two persons, mostly women, commit on attempt suicide daily.
Proceedings under section 174 CrPC have been initiated in this regard.
