| Omar is great dream seller even if there is no buyer | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Dec 9 :Who says Chief Minister,Omar Abdullah,has not been performing well ?Those who say so are wrong.Definitely they are wrong.Certainly they are prejudiced against Omar.One should not forget that Omar is on the move.He has been more on the move than stationary.He is in Jammu in the morning,afternoon he is in Srinagar and in the evening he is in New Delhi.Still opponents criticise him for poor performance.Is he a performer ?As chief Minister he is supposed to be a performer,if not an actor like his father.
Like his father he is at ease whether he is presiding over the a cultural evening,a Sufiana music concert,or a cabinet meeting.He is at ease whether he is addressing a public meeting or presiding over annual function of an educational institute.The only difference between him and his father is that Omar does not wear as much smile on his face as Farooq Abdullah has been seen wearing.Another difference:during a cultural function Omar neither sings nor dances with the dancers whereas his father would mesmerise people with his sweet voice and jokes.
During the last 11 months Omar has been trying to woo industrialists not only for setting up units in Jammu and Kashmir but also for assisting the state in harnessing hydel power potential,in the development of transport and tourism industry.After the succssive state Governments failed to tackle the shortage of drinking water Omar has plans of involving industrialists in helping the state for augmenting the drinking water supply.One should not blame Omar if he spends more time in Delhi,Mumbai and Gujarat where he would be engaged in motivating industrialists to come to Jammu and Kashmir not for sight seeing but for business.
No long ago Omar had travelled to Mumbai,not by road but by air,where he spent several days interacting with industrialists.Ultimately he was assured that the industrialists will invest several thousand crores of rupees in Jammu and Kashmir by setting mini and major industrial units.It was really a successs and this success story was flashed to all print and eletronic media right from Mumbai.Months have passed not a single industrialist has come to Jammu and Kashmir so far.Ironically more than eight industrialists had shown interest in setting up units in Jammu and Kashmir.They had begun their operation by constructing sheds and office buildings in Jammu.However,the Pollution Control Board sabotaged their dream of setting up their units.The Board raised one objection after the other.After they decided to pack the Chief Secretary,S.S.Kapoor,got the wind of the issue.
Kapoor dcided to discuss the matter with the industrialists alongwith the Board authorities and those from the Department of Industries and SIDCO.So far this meeting could not be held.Do not say that Omar neither acts nor takes quick decisions.Those who say so are wrong.He is the first Chief Minister who announced the new employment package for the unemployed youth.It is a different thing that if the wards of a safai Karamchari couple is not entitled to seek unemployment allowance.It is a different thing if the wards of a class IV employees is not elligible for the allowance.Who is then elligible ?Not even a roadside vegetable or fruit vendor because his yearly income is more than Rs.50,000.If nobody is elligible for the allowance let it be availed of by the wards of ministers and legislators who okayed the policy. |
