CM stresses humane face of police; DGP says more stations to come up

JAMMU, DEC 10: Chief Minister, Mr. Omar Abdullah Thursday emphasized on better police-public relations asking the men in khaki to be people friendly, polite and positive under all circumstances while performing their duties. “Your behavior and attitude towards society have greater impact in developing substantial police-public understanding and rapport necessary for maintenance of peaceful and tranquil atmosphere”, he added.
The Chief Minister was inaugurating a Model Police Station first of its kind at Gandhinagar here.
Appreciating the role of police in dealing with law and order situations and restoring peace, Mr. Omar said J&K Police working under difficult situations have rendered commendable service in protecting the life and property of the people. He stressed on proper growth and development of J&K Police as the role model of discipline and professional qualities.
Mr. Omar said that government will extend every support and help for the proper development, training and welfare of police personnel. “Many steps have already been initiated in this direction and many more are in the pipeline”, he added.
The Model Police Station, Gandhinagar has been completed at a cost of Rs.45 lakh with in just nine months.
The Director General of Police, Mr. Kuldeep Khoda told on the occasion that every district in the State will be having Model Police Station in a phased manner and second such station is being shortly opened at Kothibagh, Srinagar. “This measure will bring more transparency in police functioning and help the people to have access to the Station Officers directly to register complaints and enquire about the status of the complaints”, he added.
Mr. Khoda said that SMS service with mobile number 9469300300 has also been introduced for registering the complaints in Model Police Station, Gandhinagar. He said efforts are afoot to modernize the police and impart requisite training to give fillip to their professionalism.
