| Geelani gives another slip, calls for strike today | | | Early Times Report Srinagar, Dec 10 : Chairman of the breakaway Hurriyat Conference (HC) Syeed Ali Shah Geelani gave police the slip yet again and went under ground to address a rally here tomorrow. Geelani has called for a general strike in Srinagar tomorrow against the alleged illegal occupation of lakhs of kannals of land by the security forces in Jammu and Kashmir. A spokesman for HC Ayaz Akbar said that Mr Geelani has left for an unknown place to avoid house arrest. He said Mr Geelani is scheduled to address a rally after the Friday prayers at Khankah-e-Moula in the Shair-e-Khas. Mr Geelani has called for strike in the Srinagar district tomorrow, he added. The breakaway HC Chairman had appealed to people to observe strike separately on Fridays in different districts in the Kashmir valley against the occupation of land by the security forces. The strike call is being issued by the HC for each district separately. So far Shopian, Baramulla, Kulgam, Kupwara and Bandipora had observed strikes on Fridays in response to the call. Geelani addressed ralliesed at Shopian, Baramulla and Bandipora while he could not go to Kulgam and Kupwara because of restrictions imposed by the authorities.
