Romesh assures redressal of genuine grievances of Coal mine labourers

Srinagar, October, 07 –Minister of state for Industries and commerce Dr Romesh Sharma has assured the labourers of Kalakote coal mine that their genuine demands would be taken up with Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad for sympathetic consideration.
At a meeting of representatives of coal mine labourers which among others was attended by MLA Mohd Yousf Taragami and Managing Director J&K Minerals here today, Dr Romesh urged upon all the labourers of the mine to improve upon the extraction and profitability of coal. He said government is abreast with their problems and would find out solutions for the same as soon as possible. He said all the issues concerning them would be deliberated in for finding out a workable solution.
During the meeting, Managing Director J&K Minerals apprised the Minister that 19582 Metric tones of coal was extracted and sold for Rs. 16.13 crore during the last fiscal adding that expenditure to the tune of Rs. 8.69 crore was incurred on the extraction and allied activities during the period. He also informed that as many as 1250 workers including 450 casual labours are presently working in the Kalakote Coal Mine.
The coal mine labourers whose strike entered on 23rd day today are demanding continuation of their services, release of COLA instalments besides early settlement of SRO 43 cases and dispensing with the one day break in their services.
Later, a delegation of J&K Handicrafts technical employees Association led by its president Fayaz Ahmad Shabnum and Handloom Cooperative Societies Coordination Committee led by AR Lone called on the Minister. Handicraft employee’s interalia demanded consideration of contractual service into qualifying service, amendment in recruitment rules, grant of technical grade and reorganization of department. While the Handloom Cooperative Society representatives among other things demanded one time rebate.
The Minister gave a patient hearing and assured the deputationists of sympathetic consideration of their demands.
