Jammu, Dec 10- The Law School in collaboration with Department of Student Welfare and Campus Cultural Committee, University of Jammu organized a function for observance of Human Rights Day. Justice Bashir-Ud-Din, Chairman State Human Rights Commission was the chief guest. Prof. N.A. Ganai, Dean Academic Affairs, University of Jammu, Prof. Lalita Parihar, Director, The Law School, Prof. G M Bhatt, Chairman, Campus Cultural Committee and Prof. J.S.Tara, Dean Students Welfare were also present.
In her welcome address Prof. Lalita Parihar, Director, The Law School applauded the efforts of Justice Bashir-ud-Din, as Judicial Officer where he discharged his duties quite effectively and efficaciously in different capacities. While speaking about the achievements of Justice Bashi-ud-Din, she pointed out that he has remained in the forefront of protecting the rights of the students and guarded their interest while being chairman of constitutional and statutory committee to supervise and monitor the transparency, fairness and non-exploitative practices in the process of admission of students to professional courses.
Laying stress on different aspects of Human Rights Justice Bashir-ud-Din also made a reference to Indian Culture, based on teachings of Rigveda, Manusmriti, Ashoka, Islam, Christianity, Sikhism etc, wherein the Human Rights and Humanitarian Principles have been the cornerstone of our national ethos. He also threw light on the historical background, present working of State Human Right Commission and various amendments which have taken place from time to time. In his concluding remarks he expressed the hope that to imbibe the human rights, knowledge and develop the right skills, we need to update purpose-oriented serving/delivery system and put in place progressive rights mechanism and commitment to compassionate, orderly and just culture stemming from basic human values.
Prof. N.A. Ganai, Dean Academic Affairs, University of Jammu, delivered the presidential remarks wherein he highlighted the importance of Human Rights. He also focused upon the co-relation of the Rights (Whether in prescriptive form or descriptive form) and duties.
Prof. G.M.Bhatt, Chairman, Campus Cultural Committee, presented the formal vote of thanks where as Dr. Seema Rohmetra, Assistant Professor, The Law School, conducted the proceeding of the event.

Magotra, Head and Dean Faculty of Law, Prof. Versha Mehta, Dr. Arvind Jasrotia, Prof. Taj-ud-Din, Dr. Neeru Sharma, Dr. Monica Narang, Dr. Mirnalini Atrey, Dr. Shubha, Dr. Renu Jamwal, Deepti Gupta, Navdeep Kour, Nirmal Kour, Seema Sharma, Monika Bhardhwaj, Sonia Aneja,Vinay Thusoo, Public Relations Officer, Savita Nayyer, Shavi Sharma, Smriti Arora and others were also present.
