RPs to educate people during the Melas: Malik

JAMMU, DECEMBER12 – Minister for Higher Education, Labour and Employment, Mr. Abdul Gani Malik on Saturday emphasized for the need disseminating information to the general public and unemployed youth about the Sher-i-Kashmir Employment and Welfare Programme for Youth (SKEWPY) launched by the Government recently. He also stressed to counsel and motivate and facilitate un-employed educated youth to take up entrepreneurship as career option

Chairing the meeting of District Development Commissioners of Jammu Division and officers of various departments for finalizing the modalities of “Employment Melas” to be organized on the instructions of Chief Minister Mr. Omar Abdullah, the Minister said that 5-day “Employment Fair” will be conducted in each district of the State during the months of January and February.

Among others, Secretary Labour and Employment Mr. Farooq Ahmad Peer, Divisional Commissioner, Jammu Mr. Pawan Kotwal, District Development Commissioner of Jammu n, Directors of Tourism and Industries & Commerce, Jammu, Director Employment, Director Social Welfare, Jammu, Directors of Handicrafts, Handlooms, Fisheries departments, Director J and K Entrepreneurial Development Institute, Managing Director, J&K Women Development Corporation and representatives of Financial institutions attended the meeting.

The Minister exhorted upon the District Development Commissioners of Jammu Division to make the employment awareness melas a success in each district in which all the departments implementing self-employment schemes directly or in coordination with other agencies will set-up their stalls to provide detailed information and counselling about the employment opportunities outside Government sector available to the educated youth.

Various issues related to conduct of employment fair were threadbare discussed in the meeting.

28 departments will participate and install stalls in every district during the Employment Fair lasting for five days.

The Minister assured the District Development Commissioners that extra expenditure on the Fair will be met out of the District Plan if the available allocations with the concerned departments do not suffice the requirements.

The dates and the venues regarding the “Employment Fair” in respective districts were also finalized in the meeting.

The Minister impressed upon all the concerned departments, the implementing agencies and financial institutions to work with zeal and zest for making the scheme result oriented so that the problems of unemployment could be tackled.

Stressing awareness among people regarding the employment policy with proper areas of investment and identification of beneficiaries will fetch better results for boosting the economy of the State, the Minister added.

The Minister also emphasized for considering the avenues of marketing while establishing the units and DDCs shall pool in all the departments and educate the beneficiaries on the thrust areas and sensitize people about the availability of raw materials.
