| State to seek expertise for increasing power generation: Jora | | | Srinagar, October, 07 –The state government is contemplating to seek expertise and other help from other states for increasing power generation capacity and to exploit the vast hydro power potential available in the Jammu and Kashmir. This was stated by the Minister for Power Mr Nawang Rigzin Jora while chairing the Annual General meeting of J&K Power development Corporation here today. He said that Harayana Electricity Development Board has evinced interest in this behalf during the Chief Minister’s enclave held in Chandigarh. During the meeting financial statements of the corporation for the year 2005-06 were adopted. The meeting was informed that the corporation has generated energy for Rs 95.26 crore during last year. It was further stated that the corporation has commissioned five micro hydel power projects which includes Pahalgam, Bhaderwah and three projects in Ladakh region. The share holders of the corporation also received the audited accounts of the corporation for the year 1998-99. The share holders were also informed about the decision of the board regarding implementation of 4 projects of aggregate capacity of 900 MW including Kirthai, lower Kalnai in Doda district, new Ganderbal in Srinagar and Parnai in Poonch district for the current year. During the meeting, considerations were also made to explore implementation of 1 to 2 major power projects through joint ventures. Among others, Chief Secretary Mr C. Phunsong, Managing Director Power Development Corporation (PDC) Mr Shalinder Kumar, Commissioner/Secretary PDC Mr B.B. Vyas, Director Finance Mr G.Q Wani and Special Secretary PDD Mr B.D. Sharma were also attended the meeting. |
