| Altaf reviews timber, forestation position of Rajouri | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, DEC 13: The Social Forestry division Rajouri has established seven nurseries in Rajouri at Chatyar, Ghambir, Sawani, Channi, Neeladab and Khurak Panja for raising plants during the current year. 2.25 lakh plants have been planted in these nurseries till date. This was given out in and officers meeting, chaired by the Minister for Forest and Environment, Mian Altaf Ahmad while reviewing the functioning of Social Forestry and Soil Conservation departments in Rajouri yesterday. The Minister was told that the division has constituted 120 village forest committees for the preservation and maintenance of these nurseries. The meeting was informed that about 7,000 to 8,000 quintals of fodder are produced annually from these nurseries to benefit the people of the area. The Minister was further told that 19,000 sq. feet of timber has been distributed among 615 beneficiaries of Rajouri and Nowshera divisions by November 2009. The Soil Conservation division Rajouri under NREGA would undertake projects worth Rs. 42.40 lakhs to prevent soil erosion in the district, the Minister was informed. The meeting further informed that 1.80 lakh cft of Chir timber stands marked in various compartments of the Forest Division Rajouri which would be subsequently transferred to State Forest Corporation for sale purposes and which is expected to generate the revenue of Rs. 5 crore. Director, Social Forestry, Mr. Shamim Ahmad Khan, Chief Conservator of Forests, Jammu, Mr. S.C. Sharma, Managing Director, State Forest Corporation, Mr. A.Q. Khan and other senior officers of the department were present in the meeting.
