| Akhoon joins Kargil students in their festival | | | Early Times Report Jammu December 13- Minister for Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution (CA&PD) and Transport, Mr. Qamar Ali Akhoon has urged the students fraternity to come up to the expectations of parents who leave no stone unturned in providing quality education to their wards. The Minister was the Chief Guest at a Eid-cum-Annual day function organized by all Kargil students union Jammu here last evening. Akhoon asked the students to focus their full attention towards study and prepare themselves for competitions held at National and International level. He said that Government has initiated various measures for providing quality education to the students in every nook and corner of the State and stressed upon them for taking benefits in this regard. Regarding the hostel facilities to the students of Kargil district, the Minister said that work on construction of hostel in Jammu is going on in full swing while in Srinagar the building has been completed and is being inaugurated shortly. Referring to the demands put forth by the President of the Union Mr. Iftikar Hussain, the Minister said that the concerned authorities would be asked to provide scholarships to the Kargil students well in time. He also assured that the matter regarding free meals in the hostel of Jammu, reservation of seats for Kargil in Jammu University and establishment of center for competitive examinations at Kargil would be taken up with the concerned authorities for sympathetic consideration. Speaking on the occasion, MLA Zanskar, Kachoo Feroz Ahmed Khan appreciated the efforts of the students of Kargil for preserving their culture outside Kargil also. He asked the students to imbibe sense of competition in their minds during the modern and competitive era. He said that besides boy’s hostel, initiatives for identification of land for girls hostel is also under process. Deputy Commissioner, Kargil, Mr. Riyaz Ahmed Sheikh also spoke on the occasion. Earlier, the students presented colorful cultural programme on the occasion which was appreciated by the Minister and audience as well. Later, the Minister gave away awards to meritorious students for their selection in various key posts.
