| Court summons Goni in defamation case | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Dec 13: Special mobile magistrate Passenger and Shops Establishment Act issued summons to Mohmmad Aslam Goni, Chairman, Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association in a defamation case filed by Parveen Kapahi ex-Ranji player and member working committee friends club. Court directed Goni to be present in person or through his councilor on January 6th to clarify his stand against the complaint lodged under section 500 RPC. The complainant in his complaint has strongly refuted the press statement of Goni on Nov 3rd “terming the resignations of all the office bearers as a poly to hide their unscrupulous and corrupt deeds and charged members of cheating the game of cricket by swindling lakhs of rupees of JKCA besides held the members guilty of misconduct and in discipline”. Complainant in his complainant mentioned that the utterances in the statement and the words used by the accused have badly affected the reputation of the complainant in the society and thus accused has committed an offence of defamation and is liable to be proceeded under relevant provisions of RPC. Complainant has further maintained that the allegation leveled by the accused are baseless as the complainant was simply the member of working committee and had nothing to do with disbursement or the receipt of funds meant for the association. He questioned the authority of the accused for making such baseless statements against him. Complainant said that these baseless allegations were imputed by accused out of frustration as his nomination was withdrawn by the President, Modern Cricket Club Jammu. Such false allegations have maligned the reputation of complainant in the eyes of public and also damaged his professional reputation of over decades in the field of cricket.
