| An effort inspired by Vohra | | Abhigyan Shakuntlam –Natrang’s Sanskrit play marks new beginning | | Early Times report Jammu, Dec 13- An Act from the famous Sanskrit Play ‘Abhigyan Shakuntlam’ written by Kalidas was staged here today at Natrang Studio in its Sunday Theatre series under the direction of Sumeet Sharma. It was so ethnic and tempting to see the artists performing live in front of you in Sanskrit Language (The most scientific and structured language in the world). The performance was an instant response to the desire of the state Governor NN Vohra who recently stated in Dogra Rattan Award ceremony that earnest efforts are needed for the preservation and promotion of our own languages like Sanskrit, Dogri, Kashmiri etc .The act was so authentically and impressively designed by Sumeet Sharma and, an SNA Yuva Awardee that it received appreciating remarks of everyone. In the act, king Dushyant while hunting in a Jungle, has seen Shakuntla and is spell bound by her unparallel beauty, in hypnotized state, he narrates the event to his close associate Vidushak, who is already tired of the sport of hunting, he mocks and caricatures the longing condition of the king, but finding that the king is deeply involved in love with Shakuntla, he suggests him to find more ways to get close to her, Dushyant finds his way clear when he is requested by Rishi Kumars to guard their Ashram in the absence of Kannav Rishi, but irony occurs when at the same time a messenger informs the king that he is called back home to participate in a family ritual. Balwant Thakur complemented Sumeet for his continued thrust in the quest of a new dramaturgy of his own and also congratulated the Principal of Rashtriya Sanskrit Sansthan Jammu, (Deemed University) Prof. Vishwamurty Shastri who has taken the initiative to develop Sanskrit language and theatre. The play under the guidance of Dr. Satish Kumar and Dr. Jai Prakash Narayan has recently won prestigious title and award in ‘Koumudi Mahotsava’ at New Delhi.
