| US to partner with Islamabad in war against terrorists | | |

New Delhi, Dec 14: Announcing that the US "is a partner and not a patron" of Pakistan in the ongoing campaign against terrorists the American Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton, has said that the US Government has decided to support Pakistan in "new and vigorous" ways to ensure that it wins the war against the terrorists.
In an interview with an Afghan TV news channel Clinton said that war against terrorists in Pakistan and Afghanistan was interconnected because of the tough porous border between the two countries. While appreciating Pakistan's operations against the terrorists Clinton said that Islamabad had no other option but to act fast against the Talibans as they had posed a serious threat to its stability and survival.
Political analysts say that Clinton's remarks indicated that if there was need the American Government may deploy its troops in some areas of Pakistan so that ingress of Afghan militants and the Al Qaeda activists were prevented from either crossing into Pakistan and those from Pakistan infiltrating into Afghanistan. Reports had revealed that after the Pakistani troops made it hot for the militants in South Waziristan and the Swat valley some of the terrorists had started fleeing and entering into Afghanistan.
Hence the American experts, according to reports reaching here, believe that at last in the belts that lie on the Pak-Afghan border the US and Pakistani troops have to launch a joint operations against the Talibans and the Al Qaeda. Islamabad has not hitherto raised any objection because it has already evinced interest in fighting a war to finish against the terrorists. It is in this connection Clinton has admired Pakistan Government and the people for not Raising any hue and cry over the American action in Afghanistan. Clinton has also stated that senior American functionaries will be visiting Islamabad shortly to find out what were the requirements of Islamabad, both economic and military. This way the American Government has decided to act as a partner not only in Islamabad's drive against the terrorists but in boosting the economy of Pakistan.
Indications are that the American troops and the war material may b deployed shortly on Pak-Afghan border belt and India has been supportive of the US action in Afghanistan and Pakistan because Delhi believes, that too rightly, that unstable Afghanistan and Pakistan could pose a major security threat to India.As long as terrorists continue to remain active in Afghanistan and Pakistan there are chances of infiltration of militants into Jammu and Kashmir going up.Terrorist infested Pakistan and Afghanistan,according to defence experts,could pose a danger to the security of not only India but to Sri Lanka,Nepal and Bangladesh.
