| PDP rejects CBI findings in Shopian case | | | Early Times Report Srinagar, Dec 14- Peoples Democratic Party President Mehbboa Mufti has said the inability of the government to properly investigate the death of two young women in Shopian will not only define for all times the Omar Abdullah government but would further erode the faith of the people in institutions of the state at local and central levels. She said it now seems that whole charade of investigation by multiple agencies; one after the other was aimed at shielding the culprits rather than bringing them to book. Addressing workers convention in Chrarisharief today she said the state government led by the National Conference is only playing tricks on people repeatedly whether on the name of justice, development or employment. Mehbooba said she hoped the High Court would pursue the report of the CBI as it is the last hope of the people and ensure that justice is done to the family of the victims and the people of the state who have closely identified themselves with demand for justice. She said it now looks that all investigation was done to prove the initial verdict of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah that “it was a case of drowning” to be true. PDP President said for any investigation it is necessary that the civil society feels satisfied with its standards of objectivity and professionalism. Justice has to be seen to be done, but, the initial delay deliberately caused by the state government in registering case and starting investigation had led to destruction of vital evidence as had been concluded by the agencies of the government it self. There is pretty little that CBI could have found out so late in the day she said and added it was, however, a cruel irony that now cases had been registered against the family , the witnesses, lawyers and those who have wanted justice to be done. This, she said, was previously unheard of even in Kashmir. Mehbooba said in order to revive faith of the people in the system and remove the causes of frequent friction it was necessary that rule of law was allowed to be established in the state. She said this was apparently not happening as long as the perpetrators of crimes go scot free or incidence of human rights violation continue to take place, as happened only last week in Khansahib area where uniformed men went berserk and caused damage and injury to innocent people. Ghulam Nabi Lone Hanjura and district President Saifudin Bhat also addressed the convention.
