| Losar celebrations | | Need to respect culture: Omar | | Early Times Report Jammu Dec 14: Lauding the people of Jammu & Kashmir for maintaining State’s rich trait of communal amity respecting each other’s faith and cultural affinity, Chief Minister Mr. Omar Abdullah Monday said that his government is determined to nurture this characteristic and ensure equitable development of all the three regions of Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh. Addressing a Losar celebration function here this evening organized by All Ladakh Students Association, Jammu, Mr. Omar said that present scenario of rapid global development in all fields is fast influencing the lifestyle and cultural background of our society. “We have to protect and maintain our culture and heritage under all circumstances and work together to strengthen the high principles of love and brotherhood, Jammu and Kashmir symbolizes since ages”, he asserted. He said, “We have to always remember who we are and to which society and culture we belong. This will help us to further root the roots of our heritage”. On the educational development Chief Minister said that while Government has expanded the opportunities of higher education for youth across the state, the students have to make best use of the academic atmosphere and achieve excellence in education. “The days of youth are precious and do not return, as such you have to strike balance between your studies and extracurricular activities”, he said adding that a balanced approach towards all aspects is the wiser thinking. Extending warm greetings on Losar to the people of Ladakh and the large number of audience comprising students and others from Leh and Kargil, Chief Minister wished the New Year to be harbinger of peace, progress and prosperity for the state and its people. The Minister for Tourism, Mr. Nawang Rigzin Jora urged the students to take keen interest in studies and achieve new highs in the field of academics. “Education is the only medium to bring prosperity to the Ladakh region and you have the duty to excel in this field and prove your mettle”, he said reminding the students of the wishes and endeavours of their parents to seek better future for their wards. The Minister for CAPD, Mr. Qamar Ali Akhoon underlined the rich traditions of amity and brotherhood prevailing in Ladakh region since times immemorial and said that the co existence of different faiths and cultures in Ladakh region symbolizes the high values of humanism of the area. The students of Ladakh on the occasion presented a diverse cultural programme representing the folklore of three regions of Kashmir, Jammu and Ladakh enthralling the audience.
