| | Fly over bridge near Davika Shrine demanded | | Sarita Jamwal Udhampur Dec15: Expressing great concern over the increasing road mishaps in the town, especially near historical Davika shrine, the residents of Udhampur have demanded construction of a fly over bridge near Devika crossing on Jammu-Srinagar National Highway, besides deployment of traffic personnel. Dr Vikram Gulati a local resident said that due to absence of fly over bridge on highway near Davika crossing people in general are facing great problems who often visit at Lord Shiva temple to pay obeisance every day and those who come here to perform last rites at Davika cremation ground .He said majority of population, number of educational institutions and government offices are on both sides of national highway but due to absence of over fly bridge it is great risky for school children to cross the busiest national highway every day . He added that the buses that come from the Kashmir, Jammu and other parts of state and local mini buses too halt on the NH, thus creating problems for the pedestrians’ especially small children and aged people find it very difficult to reach the other side without support, he said Sunit Thakur a social worker said that there is no zebra crossing even on road. To make matters worse, no traffic policeman is deployed at the most busiest crossing on highway, he added. This issue was raised several times with the District administration, but of no avail, he alleged.
