J&K gets Rs 144 cr for power reforms

Jammu, Dec 15: The steering committee of the Union Ministry of Power in its 14th meeting has approved financial assistance to the tune of Rs 144.1 crore for 30 projects in Jammu and Kashmir under Restructured Accelerated Power Development Reforms Programme (RAPDPR). This includes Rs 134.49 crore as loan component. The cities and towns where financial assistance for power development schemes has been sanctioned include Srinagar city, Ganderbal, Budgam, Anantnag, Bijbehara, Dooru-Verinag, Kulgam, Pulwama, Shopian, Tral, Bandipora, Baramulla, Handwara, Kupwara, Pattan, Sopore, Sumbal, Leh, Kargil, Akhnoor, Jammu city, R. S. Pora, Samba, Kathua, Poonch, Rajouri, Badharwah, Doda, Kishtwar and Udhampur.

The RAPDPR has been launched throughout the country from April this year with an objective to reduce aggregate technical and commercial losses in power sector in urban areas of the country. The financial assistance provided under the programme shall help in checking power thefts and losses under transmission and distribution sector in the State in urban areas.
