Jammu gets open air restaurant, Jora cuts ribbon for Zaiqa at TRC

JAMMU, DEC 16: For those who love food and enjoy eating in the natural environs, a new destination has come up in the town. At the overcrowded Residency Road an idea of open air eating place could have been unthinkable but the Tourism Development Corporation has gone for some innovation –a free space has been converted into a garden restaurant.
The Minister for Tourism Nawang Rigzin Jora threw open Zaiqa Garden Restaurant at Tourist Reception Centre here this evening. A restaurant with all facilities and varied tastes has come up at a paltry investment of Rs 1.65 lakhs. It serves almost all traditional cuisines of Jammu and Kashmir to the customers and has a potential of making anything upto Rs 10,000 a day for the corporation.
Jora, who was accompanied by the Minister of State of Nasir Sogami, complimented the TDC MD Satesh Nehru for this innovative idea. He said creativity and imagination is key ingredient in tourism and hospitality sector.
Speaking on the occasion, the Minister said the Government endeavours to provide all the modern facilities to the visitors at various tourist destinations. He said over Rs. 90 crore are being spent on development of tourist spots and upgradation of tourism infrastructure during the current fiscal. He said virgin tourism spots are being exploited both in the Jammu and Kashmir divisions adding that pilgrimage sites are also being taped for religious tourism.
Jora said that Rs. 3 crore are being spent on face lifting of the JKTDC during current financial year and enjoined upon the management of the Corporation to improve its customer service and try to come up to the expectations of the consumers and tourists.
The Minister also stressed on reactivating tour and travel wing of the Corporation to provide best and comfortable services to the tourists.
Secretary, Tourism and Culture, Mrs. Tanveer Jehan, MD, JKTDC, Mr. Satesh Nehru, Director Tourism, Jammu, Mr. S. M. Sahni, senior offices of JKTDC and Tourism Department, representatives of various tourism and travel trade organizations including Chamber of Industries and Commerce Jammu, Ragunath Bazar Shopkeepers Association, Travel Agent Association, Jammu, Taxi Stand Operators, Jammu also attended the inaugural function of restaurant.
Speaking on the occasion, Managing Director, JKTDC, Satesh Nehru said that the organization has initiated several initiatives to broad base its customer service for tourists. He said new varieties of cuisine are being introduces in restaurants of the Corporation.
