| Salathia reviews functioning of I &C | | 489 new industrial units came up in Valley this year | | Early Times Report Srinagar Dec 16: The Industries and Commerce Minister SS Salathia reviewed the functioning of Industries and Commerce Department Kashmir here today. The Director, Industries and Commerce, Kachoo Isfandyar Khan and General Managers of various District Industries Centres of the valley participated. The Minister impressed upon the officers to complete the ongoing works taken in hand in various Industrial Estates of the valley and ensure that the basic infrastructure is developed there so that the entrepreneurs do not confront any inconvenience while setting up of industrial units. He also took stock of the present Industrial Estates and asked the Director to acquire more land for expansion of the existing estates where there is a potential for expansion. It was stated in the meeting that during the current year, 489 industrial units have been established in Kashmir Division. This has resulted in creating employment for 2476 persons. In addition, 1700 units have been registered provisionally with the employment potential for another 13788 persons and incentives worth Rs. 160 lakh have been distributed among 65 entrepreneurs on account of Capital Investment Subsidy, Interest Subsidy on Working Capital, DGS and testing equipments. The Minister was also informed that National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) would be established on 82 kanals of land at Industrial Estate, Ompora, Budgam. In addition, Industrial Estates, Kulgam will be established at an estimated cost of Rs. 137 lakh during current year. Besides, 157 kanals of land is being occurred at Sether Anantnag for rehabilitation of Cricket Bat manufactures presently located on either side of the National Highway.
