| Zansker students celebrate Losar | | Ladakhi culture symbolizes high values: Jora | | Early Times Report JAMMU, DEC 16: Extending warm greetings on Losar to the people especially Bhudhists community on Losar, the Minister for Tourism and Culture, Nawang Rigzin Jora wished the new year would be harbinger of peace, progress and prosperity for the State and its people. Addressing one day seminar on “Role of students towards betterment of Zanskar”, coinciding with Losar celebration function here today organized by All Zanaskar Students Union Jammu, Jora highlighted the rich traditions of amity and brotherhood prevailing in Ladakh region since times immemorial and said that the co-existence of different faiths and cultures in Ladakh region symbolizes the high values of humanism. “We have to uphold the values of communal harmony and strive to conserve our rich culture and heritage under all circumstances”, Jora added. Calling upon the people to nurture religious tolerance, the Minister said religion helps in creating a disciplined society where love and spirituality triumphs, Jora said, adding that religions should not be used to create conflict and prejudice which is against the tenants of all religious. Urging the students to take keen interest in studies for achieving new highs in the field of academics, the Minister said that the government has expanded the opportunities of higher education across the State. He advised the students to take full benefits by this congenial academic atmosphere and achieve excellence in different fields. He said “Youth are the future builders of a nation and they have to prepare themselves fully to face global challenges for making India a developed State in the world”. Jora said that the Government is determined to ensure equitable development of all the three regions of the State. He said exemplary developmental and welfare initiatives have been taken up, which include laying of railway track from Baramulla to Qazigund, reconstruction of Mughal road, setting up of two Central Universities, introduction of new Employment Policy and execution of Kishan Ganga, Bursar and Baghliar-II hydro electric projects. The Centre has provided liberal financial assistance for fructifying these projects and hoped that construction of Zoijilla tunnel would also be finalized at the earliest to ensure round the year road connectivity to the Ladakh region with rest of the country. Responding to the demands, the Minister said that with the execution of Padam –Zanskar road, the tourist influx in Zanskar area would increase many fields. He said this road is being constructed at an estimated cost of Rs. 340 crore under Prime Minister’s Reconstruction Programme. He said that upgradation work of Kargil- Zanskar road is also going on in full swing, adding that Rs. 70 crore have been spent phase-I of this road project whereas Rs. 48 crore is being expended in phase –II other sectors are also being developed equally, Mr. Jora maintained. MLA, Zanaskar, Mr. Feroz Ahmad Khan, who was present on the occasion, also felicitated the people of Ladakh region on Losar and highlighted the programmes and policies of the Government for development of far-off and hilly areas of the State.
