| Symposium on ‘HR, Armed conflict in JK” at GDC Nowshera | | | Early Times Report Nowshera Dec 16- On the 60th International Human Rights Day, the Society for Environmental Protection and Human Rights (SEPHR) organized a symposium on the topic “Human Rights and Armed Conflict in the J&K State” at Government Degree College in collaboration with Nehru Yuva Kandra, Rajouri. Dr. A.R Quadari Incharge Principal Degree College Nowshera was the Chief Guest at the function which was attended by prominent citizens, NGOs, social, political leaders, women activists, municipality and panchayat members besides the teachers and the students. Speaking on the occasion Mohan Snehi, President SEPHR asserted that due to armed conflicts in State children and women are the worst sufferer as many of them have become widows and their children are living life of orphans. He said due to armed conflict, the incidents of killing, disappearance, mental trauma, rape, exploitation and torture have been on rise. He stressed upon armed forces personnel and their agencies for judiciously using powers of Armed Forces Special Power Act. While lambasting the Pakistani Government for aiding and abetting terrorisms, he called upon the civil society, armed forces, civil administration, NGOs, social-political leaders, for keeping check on human rights violations by armed groups to ensure security and safety of civilians during the conflict. Dr. Qudaeri in his address called upon the youth of keeping distance from the agents of subversive activities and working for peace and harmony. Sonika, student of B.A Part-II of Government Degree College, won first prize in the competition Aditi Rani of Christ School, Nowshera, second prize and Mamata of B.A Part-I of Government Degree College, won the third prize. Prinyanka Sharma of Degree College Nowshera won the consolation prize.
