| Balwant Thakur counsels for theater as part of curriculum | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Dec 16- Demanding introduction of theatre as a subject in schools and colleges in Jammu and Kashmir, Natrang Director Balwant Thakur said that Natrang, as an Institution, is going to launch ‘Theatre-in-Education’ in Jammu with the support of internationally acclaimed experts of the field and expressed the commitment and the mission of the group to revolutionize the intellectual life of the city. Addressing media persons here today Thakur said most of the states in India are teaching theatre as one of the subject at the graduate level like music and dance. Theatre being the mother of all arts should be encouraged and promoted so as to have its revolutionary impact in the modern educational system. Globally theatre is considered as one of the most effective medium of personality and human development. He said the students never enter in the colleges just to grab degrees but their mission is to become better human beings. The amazing power of theatre can empower an individual with lot of self confidence and intellectual strength, he added. Balwant Thakur further demanded that like art and craft classes in the schools, theatre should be introduced as compulsory activity. It’s a known fact that parents are forced to prepare art and craft projects for the children. Teachers also know that the craft works brought to the schools are not the creations of children. He said it is high time that we start empowering children by engaging them in some serious creative activity that could explore their immense inner abilities, considering the kind of tough competition they are going to face and confront in the coming days.
