| Militants kill Shopian girl | | | Early Times Report
Srinagar Dec 16: As the Kashmir Valley continued to simmer over the CBI report on the Shopian double rape & murder case, militants shot dead a 20-year-old girl, police said Wednesday.
The incident took place late Tuesday in Shopian district's Keller village, about 50 km from here. The gunmen fired at Shiraza Akhtar from point blank range.
Shiraza received a fatal bullet wound in her head and succumbed to injuries before she could be taken to hospital," a police official said.
"Police rushed to the spot immediately and carried out searches in the village."
No group has yet claimed responsibility for the attack that came hours after thousands of people held massive demonstrations in Shopian town against a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) report on two women who were found dead in a village stream in May earlier this year.
The protestors and the separatists suspect that the CBI report is a cover up and assert that they were raped and killed by men from paramilitary forces in connivance with the local police. But in Shiraza’s case, the separatist leaders are mum and have not been forthcoming with their reactions. National Conference president Farooq Abdullah has slammed the separatists and questioned their silence.
“How can separatists stay silent on this issue,” Farooq retorted.
“They always raise hue & cry over human rights violation, but isn’t this a similar case?” Union Minister asked.
