| Salathia reviews industrial projects in Baramulla | | | Early Times Report Baramulla, December 17- The Minister for Industries and Commerce, Mr. S.S. Salathia today visited Zakura Srinagar and reviewed the pace of work on Silk Handicraft Park which has been constructed by Small Scale Industries Development Corporation (SICOP) at a cost of Rs. 9.38 crore, of which Rs. 5 crore have been utilized so far. The Minister was accompanied by the Director Industries, Mr. Kachoo Isfandyar Khan, Managing Director, SICOP, Mr. R.K. Razdan, Project Engineer SICOP, Mr. Ishtiyaq Hussain Drabu, General Manager, Mr. Javaid Iqbal and other functionaries of Industries department. While inspecting Common Facility Centre, the Minister was told that the work on this project was started during March 2009 and will be completed in March 2010. The Minister was told that Rs. 6.25 crore have been provided by the central government for the project. Mr. Salathia while interacting with the media informed that despite being age old traditional industry of Kashmir, no exclusive area was earmarked for Silk and Handicraft industry to carry out their manufacturing process. Given the tremendous market potential of this heritage trade of Kashmir, the government has established an exclusive park for this industry with the assistance of government of India. The park is being developed over an area of 109 kanals of land which will provide developed plots to 76 units, he said. The main feature of the park is the availability of all facilities those are being made available in the well defined Common Facility Centre in the park. The Minister said that on completion, this Common Facility Centre will be equipped with latest machinery for reeling, dyeing, printing an apparel making units. A modern design studio would be providing computer aided designs to meet the national and international requirements. All the machinery shall be procured under the aegis of Central Silk Board.
