| Romeo Force celebrates Vijay Diwas | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Dec 17- Counter Insurgency Force (Romeo) celebrated 38th Vijay Diwas to commemorate victory during 1971 operations and to pay homage to the gallant soldiers of the Indian Army who laid down their lives in the ‘defence of the motherland’. The celebrations commenced with a solemn wreath laying ceremony at the War Memorial. A two minute silence was observed as a mark of respect for the brave soldiers who sacrificed their today for our tomorrow. Commensurate with the operational commitments of the troops in counter terrorist operational environment, other functions organized to mark the occasion included a Bara Khana. The General Officer Commanding in his message to the troops urged them not to rest on past laurels but rededicate themselves to excel in all future endeavours. Besides, restoring near normalcy in the area, Romeo Force has ushered in grass root level development by imaginative projects for a brighter and more prosperous future of the people of the twin districts of Rajouri and Poonch, the GOC said .The local people are now fully in sync with the Security Forces in their arduous journey to eliminate the waning terrorism and reap dividends of peace and normalcy, he added. Similar functions were also organized in all Sector Headquarters under Counter Insurgency Force (Romeo) Vijay Diwas was also celebrated at Udhampur by paying solemn tributes at the Dhruva War Memorial to all those who gave the supreme sacrifice for protecting the sovereignty of our country. The General Officer Commanding-in-Chief Northern Command, Lt Gen BS Jaswal laid a wreath at the memorial for the martyrs of Northern Command. The ceremony was attended by all officers of the Command Headquarters. The event was celebrated with solemnity in Ladakh and Kashmir Valley as well.
