| Doyen impresses myriad at Abhinav Theatre | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Dec 17- A literary doyen is an institution in himself. This is all the more true about Jammu and Kashmir where these doyens have contributed a lot to bring the respective regional languages to commanding heights. Prof. Nilamber Dev Sharma is one of those literary greats who have contributed a lot to the culturo-linguistic heritage of the state. In order to acquaint people with this literary great, the Jammu and Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture and Languages organized “Meet the Eminent Contemporary” an interactive meet with the noted educationist at Abhinav Theatre Thursday. Sharma, born in October 1931, has headed the State Cultural Academy as Secretary during mid 60s and was instrumental in widening the canvas of the Academy both within and outside state during his tenure as Secretary. It was during the tenure of Sharma that two regional institutes of music and fine arts came in the limelight. Sharma was one of the important forces behind establishment of Cultural Academy’s regional office at Jammu. He was instrumental in getting Kashmiri Sufiana music recognized by the Sangeet Natak Academy New Delhi. The concept of “Meet the Eminent Contemporary” interactive session is a recent one and has been instrumental in making the current generation abreast of our contemporary greats. Such programs mainly comprise question- answer sessions. The entire proceedings of the meet are preserved through the audio- video recordings for posterity. Those who have been invited as guests to the meet included Amin Kamil, Rehman Rahi, Hamidi Kashmiri, Dina Nath Nadim, Ram Nath Shastri, Jagan Nath Azad, B.P. Sharma, Ved Ghai, Padma Sachdeva, Sukhdev Singh Charak, Mohammad Yousuf Taing, Nishat Kishatwari, Madan Mohan Sharma, Dinu Bhai Pant, K.S. Madhukar, and Yash Sharma. Speaking on the occasion Secretary Academy Zaffar Iqbal Manhas said that the Academy would continue to organize such programs in future also so as to make the current generation aware of the literary greats whose efforts have been instrumental in earning wider recognition for the state both within and outside.
