| Academy’s folk music show captivates hearts | | | Early Times Report Jammu Dec 17: Second day of the six day long folk music and dance festival myriad people from different walks of life witnessed performances of artistes on Thursday. The second day of the festival began with Gojri folk performance by Bashir Mastana and party which was followed by Haran dance by Mohan Mistry and party. The Kishtwari folk by Nissar Hussain and Haran folk dance by a party of Punjab were also staged on day two of the festival. The event, which began on December, 15 saw large scale participation of people from diverse fields of life and will culminate on 21st of December 2009. One of the prominent highlights of the festival will be the performances of artistes from Uttarakhand and Punjab. Several prominent literary personalities witnessed today’s performances. Prominent among those who were present on the occasion included former additional secretaries of the Academy Kavi Ratan and Moti Lal Kemu, Member Central Committee Lalit Magotra, Om Vidyarthi, Mohan Singh and Prof. Shiv Nirmohi among others. Organised by the J&K Academy of Art, Culture and Languages in collaboration with the North Zone Cultural Centre, Patiala, the annual folk music and dance festival would give representation to the composite cultural mosaic of the Jammu region. Speaking about the festival Secretary Academy, Zaffar Iqbal Manhas said that through such events the Academy was trying to keep the rich folk traditions of the state alive. He also said that the Academy would continue to organise such festivals so that state’s rich folk dance and music traditions could be transmitted to posterity. The week long festival will see performances by myriad artistes of repute. The Bhaderwahi Kud dance, Punjabi, Gojri, Pahari and folk dance performances of Uttarakhand will also be presented during the six day long music and dance festival.
