Early Times Report
Jammu, Dec 17: After Congress proved a divided house due to lobbyism in the party fold; Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) also exhibited a show of discomfort between the legislators. Earlier invitation was given to media persons that all the elected members of party will arrive at party headquarters to attend a joint press conference over the crucial issue of Agri-technocrats on strike for the last several days.
On reaching to venue media persons found only six MLAs present and enquired about the remaining five. Defusing the situation in hubbly-bubbly manner leaders present informed that few out of five MLAs were not in good health and others were at there respective constituency segments for taking stock of problems thereof.
Meanwhile, 6 BJP MLAs led by Legislator Party leader Prof. Chaman Lal Gupta today warned the state government not to precipitate the issue of Agriculture Technocrats and find an early settlement of their regularization in the government.
Addressing media persons, they said that the government must act quickly to resolve the problem of these technocrats who had been appointed under Rehbar-e-Zirat scheme with a nominal stipend of Rs. 1500/- few years back. These technocrats, who are already with graduate and post graduate degrees in Agriculture Sciences, have been moving from pillar to post in the government hierarchy seeking their regularization in the government service and most of them are on the verge of getting over aged. However, despite the assurances by the Agriculture Minister Ghulam Hassan Mir and Chief Minister Omar Abdhllah, no concrete action has been taken to regularize these sons of the soil, leaders regretted.
Prof. Gupta said that BJP fully supports their cause and condemns the police lathi-charge on them during a peaceful procession yesterday. They are already sitting on fast-unto-death to press their demands and if any untoward situation arises, the government will be squarely responsible for the same, he said. Another BJP MLA Ashok Khajuria, who is also State President of the party, said that it is the duty of any government to address the genuine problems and concerns of its people. "Government ceases to exist if it fails to resolve the crises of the state and its people" he said and alleged that the coalition government headed by Omar Abdullah seems to be in deep slumber on various issues facing the state. It is not only the case of Agriculture Technocrats, but many other sections like Anganwari workers, Special Police Officers (SPOs), Home Guards personnel and Pensioners have also been agitating for their grievances, Khajuria added.
Prof. Gupta while referring to the austerity majors adopted by the J&K government said that the chief minister himself has been violating these by misusing the state aircraft for election campaign in favour of Congress candidates in Jharkhand. He said that Omar Abdullah had frequently been going out of the state in state aircraft and campaigning in favour of Congress candidates, which is also violation of Code of Conduct. Reminding the National Conference Chief Minister that it was the same Congress which had put his Grand father Late Sheikh Mohd. Abdhllah in Jail for 22 long years, Prof. Gupta said that NC must be clear in politics as a matter of principle and not be a jilted lover of Congress.
MLAs Baldev Raj Sharma, Shyam Choudhary and Master Lal Chand were also present.
