| Minority Forum demands reservation for religious minorities | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Dec18- Criticizing the government of its indifferent attitude, the J&K Minority Forum has demanded that Buddhists, Sikhs and Christians, who stand already declared as minority communities at the national level under the National Commission for Minorities Act 1992, be declared minorities in Jammu and Kashmir as well and provided reservations to safeguard their legal political and social right. The Forum also demanded that Hindus of the State, including Kashmiri Pandits, who have been declared as "Reverse Minority" by United Nations, too should be recognized as a minority in the state. The Forum, on the occasion of United Nations Minorities Rights Day, organized a seminar on “Political, Legal and social status of the right of Minorities of J&K state” here today. Various speakers at the seminar dwelt in detail about the discriminations and deprivations suffered by these religious minority groups in the state. The Forum demanded that the state must fulfill its commitment and set up a State Minority Commission to safeguards legal political and socials rights of the minority communities of the state besides giving adequate representation to the minority communities in the state legislature, judiciary and executive. The Rev. Bishop Peter Celestine was the chief guest and Tagdon Rimpochy, President All Gumpha Association, was the guest of honour on the occasion. The seminar by presided over by Dr, KN Pandita. Others who were present on the occasion included Sardar Such Want Singh, former Director Agriculture, S S Anand Lehar, Tashi Rabstan, Warris Gil and Prof G.K Muju. |
