| Dogri folk mesmerize audience on ongoing Academy fest | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Dec 18: During the third day of the six day folk music and dance festival people from different walks of life witnessed performances of artistes on Friday. The third day of the festival began with Geetru by Om Prakash and party which was followed by Chajha folk performance by Dhani Ram and party and Dogri folk by Mohan Lal and party. The Bhaderwahi Kud dance by Gulab Chand and party was also staged on day three of the festival. The event, which began on December 15 saw a deluge of people from diverse fields of life and will culminate on 21st of December 2009. One of the prominent highlights of the festival will be the performances of artistes from Uttarakhand and Punjab. Besides school and college children several prominent literary personalities also witnessed today’s performances. Organised by the J&K Academy of Art, Culture and Languages in collaboration with the North Zone Cultural Centre, Patiala, the annual folk music and dance festival would give representation to the composite cultural mosaic of the Jammu region. Speaking about the festival Additional Secretary, Cultural Academy, Savita Bakshi said that the Academy holds such events so as to sustain folk traditions of the state by way of providing ready platform to artistes for presenting their performances. She assured those present on the occasion that the Academy would continue to organise such festivals so that state’s rich folk dance and music traditions could be transmitted to posterity. The week long festival will see performances by myriad artistes of repute. The Bhaderwahi Kud dance, Punjabi, Gojri, Pahari and folk dance performances of Uttarakhand and Punjab will also be presented during the six day marathon.
