| Nirmal demands scrapping of ‘Special Status’ to J&K | | | Early Times Report Doda, Dec 18- Demanding abolition of separate Constitution of Jammu and Kashmir by scrapping ‘Special Status ’paving way for extension of all Central Laws in the state, BJP National Executive Member Dr. Nirmal Singh, while addressing one day convention of party activists, intellectuals and thinkers of Ramban, Kishtwar and Doda districts at Doda city today, said the experiment of "Special Status" granted to the state under Article 370 has caused more harms than the gains. It is due to this "Special Status" that benefits of liberal and secular democracy have not reached the people, he added. Citing a number of examples, Dr. Singh said that the 73rd and 74th Amendments of the Indian Constitution, aimed at strengthening democracy at the gross roots level, could not be extended to this state due to the "Special Status". Private Sector could not grow here due to land laws which never allowed them to acquire land here and start industries which could provide jobs to thousands of educated youth of the state. Not only this, the "Special Status" has harmed the interests of the Gujjars, Bakerwals, Gaddis and Sippis, as the Forest Act of 2006 could not be extended to the state due to "Special Status". He said the time has come when there should be an open debate as to how much we suffered during the last 63 years under the "Special Status", which has only given birth to separatism. Smelling foul over the "Quiet Diplomacy" formula being pursued by the Congress-led UPA under the garb of peace process, Nirmal Singh said the BJP is not opposed holding peace talks but the people of the country has every right to know the agenda, grounds, and the people with whom the present UPA is holding talks behind the curtain. BJP State General Secretary Bali Bhagat, on this occasion, announced that the party will hold protests and dharnas at all tehsil headquarters of the erstwhile Doda district against withdrawal of 30,000 troops from the state. Party MLAs Prof Gharu Ram Bhagat and Shyam Choudhary, Ishtiaq Wani, Sunil Sharma, Dalip Singh Parihar and Mohammed Ashraf also addressed the convention. |
