| CPI (M) express concern over food price inflation | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Dec 19: The regional committee of CPI (M) has expresses its deep concern at the galloping food price inflation, which crossed 19 percent last week. Regional secretary Sham Prasad said that over 50 paisa in every rupee spent at an average Indian per day is on food and over 60 per cent of India’s population spends less than Rs. 20 per head per day. India is the only major developing economy in the world where prices are rising, in the back drop of the global recession while food and fuel prices have been falling across all countries and added this exposes the failure of Congress led government at the centre. As per press release CPI (M) demands that steps to reign in food price inflation. The union government in coordination with state government must launch cracks down against hoarding and black marketing and future trading in all food articles must be banned. The government must release cereal stocks through PDS by increasing rice and wheat quotas for states and supply pulses, edible oil and sugar through PDS at cheap rates.
