| Slathia releases ‘Vijay Thakur’s poetry book | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Dec 19: ‘Kee Je….’ A dogri poetry book written by Vijaya Thakur was released by the minister for industries and commerce SS Slathia at a function organized by Dogri Sanastha at KL Sehgal here today. The released book entitled “Kee Je..” is a collection of poems written by upcoming poet Vijaya Thakur who is a teacher by profession. This is her first collection of poetry in Dogri and some of the poems in the collection are fine examples of poetry in Dogri and some of the poems in the collection are fine examples of poetry full of lyrical ideas, beautiful imagery and subtle human sentiments. She regaled the audience by rendition of a couple of her poems in her melodious voice. Slathia who was chief guest was full of praise for the quality and standard of poetry Thakur. He said that the need of the hour is to have more such poetry to make dogri language popular among the masses. He complimented Thakur for her achievements. He had strong words of appreciation for Dogri Sanastha which is encouraging the writers in a commendable manner. He also urged upon the respect their mother tongue by conversing in the same. Ved Bhasin who presided over the function in his presidential address went through the history of Dogri literature highlighting the contribution of women writers especially women poets. He said that Vijaya is carrying forward the healthy traditions set up by Padma Sachdev. He said that like Padma Thakur’s poetry has a freshness and something new to offer. Rashpal Singh, MLA, who represents the constituency where Thakur was born and brought up, narrated many past incidents which showed that Thakur was a talented and multi dimensional person right from her childhood. He said organizations like Dogri Sanstha should extend the work of popularization of Dogri to remote and far off places like Rajouri and Kalakote. Earlier Prof. Lalit Magotra, president, Dogri Sanstha while welcoming the audience, expressed his immense pleasure at the addition of a new book and good poetry to dogri language. He said that Thakur has a potential and capability to ad new dimensions to Dogri poetry. A musical programme based on the poetry of Vijay Thakur was also presented in which Sham Sajan, Chanchal Sharma and Naveen Kumar lend their melodious voices to the songs pen down by the poet. The audience appreciated the music which was composed by veteran composer Brij Mohan and Sham Sajan. Prof. Shashi Pathania, Head, PG Department of Dogri, University of Jammu, who was conducting the programme, narrated many anecdotes regarding the sensibility and creative acumen of the poet.
