| Folk performances leave audience spellbound | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Dec 19- On day four of the ongoing folk music and dance festival at Abhinav Theatre several theatre groups staged their performance Saturday. Prominent performances of the day included Thali dance by CS Katal and party, Dogri folk by Bishan Dass and party, Geetru by Khajoor Singh and party and Dogri folk by Ravinder Magotra and party. Interestingly, the ongoing theatre festival is an annual exercise which is held in the month of November every year so as to popularize folk traditions of the state among the younger generation. This year the festival began on December 15 and would culminate on December 21, 2009. One of the prominent highlights of this year’s festival has been the participation of artistes from states like Uttarakhand and Punjab. Besides school and college children, several prominent literary personalities also witnessed today’s performances. Organized by the J&K Academy of Art, Culture and Languages in collaboration with the North Zone Cultural Centre, Patiala, the annual folk music and dance festival is aimed at showcasing the folk talent and traditions of the Jammu region of the state. Commenting on the festival Additional Secretary, Cultural Academy, Savita Bakshi said that the Academy has been conducting the exercise for years on year end and would continue to organize such events so that the folk traditions of the state could be projected and promoted.
