| Sham calls for concerted efforts for fighting AIDS | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Dec 19: Minister for Health, Horticulture and Floriculture, Mr. Sham Lal Sharma has called for collective efforts to fight against the menace of deadly disease AIDS, saying that people from different fields have to contribute their bit to make the society AIDS free.
The Minister was speaking at an AIDS Awareness Programme organized by the Lawrence Public School, Sidhra in collaboration with Directorate of Health Services, Jammu as a part of observance of World Health Day, here today.
Lauding the efforts of private educational institutions in providing quality education with an emphasis on co-curricular activities, the Minister said that Government was taking all necessary steps to encourage the private sector in other fields as well. He said that Government was interested to involve the private entrepreneurs in the health sector and various proposals are already in the pipeline. He sought cooperation of the educational institutions in awareness campaign against AIDS and said that students can play a vital role in awaking people about the precautions to prevent the further spreading of epidemics. He stressed upon the teachers to impart moral and value based education to the children and shape their personalities in such a way that they can face the future challenges.
The Minister also inspected “India Festival” organized in the same premises by Youth Talent Search Forum, that has representatives from group of over 10 private schools. He went around the stalls depicting Indian culture; religions and traditions exhibited by different institutions and evinced keen interest in the activities. He appreciated the excellent performance of the children who were clad in different traditional dresses. The children presented a colourful cultural bonanza and skits depicting social evils in the society including AIDS prevention measures, which were highly applauded by the audience present at the function.
The Minister gave mementoes to the principals, teachers, and students of participating institutions for their performance.
Among others, Project Director, State AIDS Control and Prevention Society, Dr. M.A.Wani, Director Health Services, Jammu, Dr. Jasbir Singh, Commissioner, Bharat Scouts and Guides, Jammu, Mr. I.D.Soni, President Sahyog India, Mr. Aswhani Jojra, State President, Gandhi Global Family, Mr. S.P.Verma, Chairman Lawrence Public School, Wg. Cdr. M.M. Joshi were also present on the occasion.
