Some jawans of 47 BN of BSF were on routine guard duty on the forward Kranti Post in Krishna Ghati when small arms fire came from the side of Taku Post of Pakistan at about 10.30 am, wounding three of them. he injured -- Mukesh Chand, S. Gagoi and Pawan Kumar were swiftly removed to a safer location inside the post by other jawans manning the post. They were later evacuated to a Army Hospital, Poonch. Following deterioration in his condition, Mukesh was later referred to Military Hospital, Jammu, for advanced treatment. Police sources said Mukesh succumbed to his injuries soon after his admission to the Military Hospital here.Sources said the Pak firing was totally unprovoked. It was, as usual, aimed at helping infiltrators to enter Indian territory. Sources said the unidentified men, may be Pak army soldiers, or militants, were firing from a nullah situated ahead of the Pakistani Post towards the LoC. If they were militants, they definitely had the backing of the Pakistani army. However, if they were Pak soldiers, then it was a clear case of ceasefire violation. Sources said when the armed men moved closer to LoC, BSF men retaliated. The intermittent firing between the two sides continued for about 15 minutes. Casualty, if any, across the LoC was not known, the sources added. Forces were, however, quite alive to these tactics of the enemy and were fully prepared to foil any intrusion bid by the militants camping in the forward posts of Pakistan along the LoC and the International Border (IB), the sources added. Sources said troops on the IB and the LoC had already been put on high alert following intelligence inputs that several militants, perched in the Pak forward posts, were in wait for an opportune moment to sneak into the Indian territory. It is pertinent to mention here that three infiltration bids have been made by militants from across the IB for the past less than one month.
