| 8th death anniversary of Manohar Nath Koul observed | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, DECEMBER 20 – Observing that intellectuals had a crucial responsibility to guide the society in right direction, the Minister for Finance and Ladakh Affairs, Mr. Abdul Rahim Rather today called upon the people to be stead fast in upholding the cherished principals of secularism and tolerance. Paying glowing tributes to former Revenue Minister, Mr. Manohar Nath Koul, popularly known as ‘Mankak’ on his 8th death anniversary at an impressive function at Hotel Asia, here this morning, the Minister recalled his contribution in further cementing the secular foundations of the Jammu and Kashmir’s pluralistic ethos. Mr. Rather described, Mr. Koul as an intellectual of Par-excellence who left indelible mark on the political and social arena of the State. He said Mr. Koul, pursued his mission of peaceful and prosperous secular J&K State with political consistency despite many odds during his half a century political career. “I had an opportunity to closely see and understand Mr. Koul and found him an apostle of high principles and moral values, a wise and farsighted politician whose ideas were always inspiring and guiding”, Mr. Rather added. Mr. Rather assured the gathering that the present Government would provide every possible assistance to Kashmiri pandits at every stage to overcome their difficulties adding that the Prime Minister’s Package for rehabilitation of Kashmiri migrants would be implemented in its true spirit. About 6000 educated migrant youth would be provided job opportunities, Mr. Rather said adding that 3000 jobs would be borne on the State Plan and the Central Government will provide assistance for the far the remaining 3000 posts for some time. “But these packages alone would not address the real problem”, the Finance Minister said while urging the need for individual as well as joint efforts by one and all to strengthen emotional bonds between the members of the two communities with love, affection and goodwill. Speaking on the occasion, the Revenue Minister, Mr. Raman Bhalla said strengthening the traditional bonds of communal harmony, brotherhood and amity is the best way to pay tributes to late Manohar Nath Koul. MLA and the State Secretary, CPI (M), Mr. M. Y. Tarigami, former Minister, Mula Ram, Mr. Swami Kumar Ji, Amar Nath Shastri and ex-MLC Mohammad Sayeed Akhoon also spoke on the occasion and paid glowing tributes to the late leader. A large number of admirers of the late leader and members of the Manohar Lal Koul Charitable Trust were also present on the occasion. The Ministers also distributed cash assistance and computer equipment among the needy persons and some education institutions on behalf of the Trust.
