| Dogri folk music and dance mesmerises audience | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Dec 20: During the fifth day of the ongoing folk music and dance festival at Abhinav Theatre several theatre groups staged their performance on Sunday. Prominent performances of the day included Geetru by Vishwanath Ratta and party, Dogri and Punjabi folk by Chanchal Sharma and party and Dogri folk by Rashpal Singh and party of Uttarakhand.
Like the earlier four days the festival performances of the day also saw myriad people at Abhinav theatre.
The ongoing theatre festival is an annual exercise which is held in the month of November-December every year in Jammu city so as to popularise folk traditions of Jammu among the newer generation.
This year the festival began on December 15 and would end on December 21, 2009. One of the prominent highlights of this year’s festival has been the participation of artistes from states like Uttarakhand and Punjab; artistes of Uttarakhand performed today also.
Besides common citizens of Jammu proper, several prominent literary and social figures also witnessed today’s performances. Noted poet and literary figure, Pritpal Singh Betab was the chief guest during today’s performance.
Organised by the J&K Academy of Art, Culture and Languages in collaboration with the North Zone Cultural Centre, Patiala, the annual festival showcases the folk talent and traditions of the Jammu region of the state.
Speaking about the event Additional Secretary, Cultural Academy, Smt. Savita Bakshi said that the Cultural Academy has been doing the exercise for years now and would continue to do so in future also so that the folk traditions of Jammu could be popularised among the younger generation.
