| Extension lecture on ‘Impact of climate change on biodiversity’ | | | Early Times Report Bishnah, Dec 21- Government Degree College Bishnah organized an Extension Lecture in collaboration with Centre for Adult, Continuing Education and Extension, University of Jammu on the topic “Impact of Climate Change on Biodiversity”, here today. The main resource person Prof. B.L. Koul, former Principal Department of Higher Education and presently member Solution Exchange Program of UN in India, while speaking on the occasion, elaborated upon the impact of global warming and climate change on the Biodiversity worldwide with special reference to the flora and fauna of the Himalayas. He also dwelt upon the threat posed by emission of green house gases on the environment and consequently upon the very human existence. Prof. Koul has written many books on environment and his latest book on this subject is titled “Biodiversity Conservation in The Himalayas”. Pallavi Project Officer, CACEE, University of Jammu stressed that arranging such lectures in the colleges will go a long way to give a perfect understanding to students about various important current issues. Earlier, Prof. Veena Pandita, Principal of the college, while welcoming the guests, stressed that concern about global biodiversity loss has emerged as a prominent and widespread public issue. She further added that we must recognize the importance of biodiversity conservation and should support it through our values, performance and communication. She expressed gratitude to Prof. Poonam Dhaman, Director CACEE for her genuine interest in percolating the benefit of extension lectures in rural and semi-urban areas.
