| JKCCC criticize Health Minister’s decision, threaten agitation | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Dec 21 Jammu and Kashmir Contractors Coordination Committee (JKCCC) condemned Health Minister’s decision for handing over the work of five primary health centre buildings to JKPCC and Police Housing Corporation. Talking to media persons here today, Balwinder Singh, general secretary, JKCCC said that Health Minister handed over the work of five primary health centre buildings to JKPCC and Police Housing Corporation, each amounting to Rs1.6 crore against whom the advance to the tune of Rs 50 lakhs has already been released to the PWD. “This decision of Minister concerned is totally arbitrary and against the ‘A’ class contractors as the Secretary Works vide SRO 122 dated May 8, 2009 has enhanced the capacity of ‘A’ class contractor up to three crores”, he said, adding, ‘It’s not justified to debar the registered ‘A’ class contractors of the state to execute the works even up to three crore’. He informed that ‘A’ class contractors already constructed many primary health centres which were quality-wise superior. Singh alleged that after the formation of coalition government, majority of the works in number of constituencies are being executed through the political workers of the leaders of the respective constituencies, without inviting tenders, violating the codal formalities and ignoring the interest of thousands of registered contractors who are the contributors of major revenue in shape of taxes. JKCCC appealed the Chief Minister to intervene and do justice with contractors and make sure that there will be no political interference in PWD workers. “Failure on the part of Government to do justice with Class ‘A’ contractors would force them to launch agitation at district level”, JKCCC warned. Sham Singh Jamwal, Yogeshwar Singh Jamwal and Ravinder Nath Sharma, all vice chairmen JKCCC were also present at the press conference.
