| Workshop on capacity building of women managers conclude | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Dec 21: A five day workshop on ‘capacity building of women managers in higher education, sponsored by the university grants commission concluded at Government MAM College here today. During the workshop several resources persons who participate express their views. Commissioner cum Secretary Pramod Jain, who was the chief guest said such type of workshops made women a new human being a new manager. He said as an administrator, women must do more for women and women must lead women. The principal of college Dr. MS Baloria, in his welcome address asserted on the need for change of mindset regarding creation of a gender positive climate for women leaders and to look at women leaders with a gender friendly eye, if we want them to climb the ladder of success. The report for the five day workshop was being presented by Prof. Sandhya Bharadwaj, local coordinator of the workshop. After the inaugural session the first day began with the presentation of Manual-I ‘Women Studies and Prospective’ by Prof. Poonam Dhawan, regional coordinator. She explains the concept of women studies and its impact on women managers. Prof. Nilofer Khan, sub regional coordinator, university of Kashmir introduced manual two entitled women and governance. She focused on the role of an effective mentor in making women adopt in the art of governance. One the third day Dr. Renu Gupta, director MIER college of education acquainted the participants with the subject matter of Manual-III entitled ‘women and academic leadership’ In her deliberation she stressed on the importance of the 4 C’s- consciousness, concern, commitment and competence which are considered the ladders for successful women leaders. The open session with Ms Seema Shekhar former additional advocate general J&K was very informative. She highlighted the need for women to be aware of their rights. Day four started with the presentation of manual IV entitled ‘Management of personal and professional role’ by Dr. Yasmin Ashai, centre for women studies, GCW, MA road Srinagar. In the afternoon Prof. Pam Rajput core group resource person, North West chaired the session. The open session was with Rajni Sehgal, SP (Distt. Jail Udhampur) who shared her experiences in a very informative, lively and energetic way. Finally the last day Dr. Shashi Koul and Prof. Nidhi Kotwal were the resource persons for the manual V ‘women and research’. Certificates were distributed among the participants and the local coordinator Prof. Sandhya Bharadwaj presented the vote of thanks.
