| JKP maintains winning spree, lifts Gold Cup | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, December 22: Maintaining their unbeaten run, Jammu and Kashmir Police today lifted the third consecutive major title when they inflicted a humiliating 7-1 defeat on Consumer and Public Distribution (CAPD) XI (erstwhile Food and Supplies) in the final of Sher-e-Kashmir Gold Cup Football Championship at GGM Science College, here.
Gaining confidence after beating the professional side of J&K Bank in Martyrs Memorial and other major events, the team-A of the J&K Police faced little difficulty in side lining the opponent in front of a jam-packed gathering at the GGM Science College ground this afternoon.
Consented to be the chief guest in the valedictory function of the tournament, Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah could not make it to the venue and instead sent his advisor, Mubarak Gul to give away the prizes to the winners and runners-up teams.
Amidst host of National Conference leaders, Mubarak Gul congratulated the winners and organizers of the event on behalf of the Chief Minister.
Earlier, J&K Police registered a facile 7-1 victory of CAPD XI. Gulzar and Vinay were the star strikers scoring two goals each While Gulzar struck in the 7th ad 15th minute, Vinay netted the ball in the 63rd and 80th (penalty kick) minutes of the match. Fayaz (59th), Gurmeet (55th) and Manmohan (70) contributed a goal each. From CAPD XI, Irfan reduced the margin scoring the goal in the 35th minute.
Earlier, organizing secretary of the tournament, provincial president of Youth National Conference (YNC), Surinder Singh Bunty presented a brief note of the tournament.
To encourage and boost the police team, Inspector General of Police (Armed), Dilbag Singh witnessed the full match.
CHRISTMAS CUP FROM DECEMBER 27: Christmas Cup Football Tournament shall be held at GGM Science College ground here from December 27.
