| Come up to expectations of masses: Rather | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, DECEMBER 22 – Emphasizing upon the Power Development Department (PDD) to meet the targets and bridge the gap between expenditure and revenue realization, Minister for Finance and Ladakh Affairs, Mr. Abdul Rahim Rather today asked the PDD to come up to the expectations of common masses by putting in extra efforts to improve the delivery system. Rather also called for revising power curtailment schedule to ensure that people living in far-off areas also get due share. Reviewing the working of the department here at an officers meeting, the Minister said that the set targets must be achieved in a stipulated time frame. He warned the functionaries against any laxity on this account and directed for regular monitoring and holding of meetings for sorting out issues impeding the process of realization of revenue. Mr. Rather said innovative measures need to be taken for restoring the image of the department, adding that people should be educated about the misuse of power and advantages of judicious consumption. Giving a resume of the measures taken up by the Department, the Principal Secretary, PDD, Mr. B. R. Sharma said that additional power, costing Rs 2000 crore was being purchased during the current fiscal year for meeting the demand of consumption. He said every effort was being made to balance the purchase and consumption ratio. He said that Rs 45 lakh have been realized by way of undertaking around 4,000 inspections only in Kashmir division, adding that the similar drives were launched in Jammu division as well. He informed that the agreemented load is much lower than the non-agreemented and said efforts are being made to cover other areas in the ambit of meters.
