| Protesting PDD daily wagers hold staff hostage | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Dec 22 : Hundreds of agitating daily-wager employees of the Jammu and Kashmir Power Development Department (PDD) today 'gheraoed' office of the Commissioner Development Power and took the staff members and other senior officials hostage in the office in the Janipur area here. Shouting anti-government slogans, hundreds of PDD daily wager employees took out a massive rally and reached the Commissioner's office this afternoon and gheraoed the complex. ''The employees gheraoed the complex and locked all the entry and exit points thus holding the senior officials and other staff members as hostage,'' a police official said. However, the protesting employees were demanding that either Chief Minister Omar Abdullah or the Power Minister should intervene to resolve their issue. ''The government every year assure us to settle down our long pending demands but nothing comes in black and white,'' a Union leader told He said last year, the daily wagers were told that they would be regularised but it was merely a eyewash and simultaneously, government was adopting same tactics. ''Not only regularisation of employees but for the past three years, we have not been paid our salaries, which is unfortunate,'' he added.
The All Jammu and Kashmir PDD Daily Wager Employees Union had given an ultimatum to the State government to settle down their grievances by December 3 but they alleged that government paid no attention to them.
