| Govt claims overwhelming response to its self-employment schemes | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Dec 22 : The state Government has asked the Entrepreneurship Development Institute to help the state authorities in carrying out mass awareness campaign in support of availing the benefits from the central Government sponsored self-employment schemes. High placed official sources informed despite the fact that the Government intends to provide jobs to one lakh people during the next five years the scope for educated unemployed youth for finding jobs in Government departments were very limited as most of the offices, including the public sector undertakings and corporations, were over staffed. The sources said that it is in this connection that the Government has laid thrust on Self-Employment Schemes. Sources further said that the centrally sponsored self-employment schemes were credit linked because the financial institutions seem reluctant in extending credit facility to the first generation entrepreneurs in view of the risk perception. According to sources the state government has decided to intervene so that the entrepreneurs were insulated from frustration and mental agony. Accordingly the state Entrepreneurship Development Institute (EDI) was being asked to offer entrepreneurship development programmes as a package which besides sensitization, training and consultancy inputs shall make available incentives in the form of non-refundable seed money to help entrepreneurs to start their projects. The official sources said that to make this programme a success the Government has created an Entrepreneurship Development Fund with an initial corpus of Rs.25 crores. This amount will be utilized under a well conceived scheme for the registered first generation entrepreneurs so that they start their ventures in the sectors of agriculture, horticulture, floriculture, medicinal and aromatic plant cultivation and food processing.
