| Regularize adhoc, contractual appointees: Tarigami | | Urges for implementation of cabinet sub-committee report | | Early Times Report Srinagar, Dec 22- Making a fervent and strong appeal to the government for regularizing the services of all those working on contractual and adhoc basis for years together, CPI (M) State Secretary and MLA Kulgam M. Y Tarigami has said that braving cynicism and adversities the adhoc and contractual appointees have been working holistically on just basic salary. He said that this was unjust and discriminating adding that exploitation of human capital on below the minimum wages was not a right step by the state government. Tarigami urged the government to implement the cabinet decision taken on May, 20, 2008 where-under the cabinet had decided to consider the regularization of contractual and adhoc services and approved to bring a legislation through an ordinance for the purpose. He said that with the lapse of more than a year, the decision awaits its implementation which has brought pessimism among the youth working in adhoc and contractual capacities for several years. Tarigami said that having served in adhoc and contractual capacities for many years most of such appointees have crossed the upper age-limit and have otherwise been rendered ineligible for government jobs. So a sympathetic view was to be taken by the government to provide job security to such appointees, he added. While strongly condemning the police action on daily wage workers of the Power Development Department (PDD), Tarigami said that instead of settling issues, matters are sought to be settled with coercion, which amounts to the violation of workers basic rights. Tarigami urged upon the government to stop use of such authoritarian methods against peaceful demonstrations and demanded immediate implementation of the assurances made to the daily wage workers.
