| Congress membership drive likely to be extended | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Dec 23 The membership drive, launched by the Congress in Jammu and Kashmir scheduled to be concluded on December 31, is likely to be extended so as to accommodate more and more people as the grass root workers, party sources said. The party sources also revealed that to discourage the bogus membership the party leadership for the first time has introduced the provision of affixing individual photograph who wish to enroll themselves as members of the Congress on the membership form. To a question about the the election for the PCC office bearers party sources said that the date has not been fixed yet but presently we have to complete the membership programme first and then the rest of affairs will be looked into. Sources further said that as per the precedent appointing of PCC office bearers, including the PCC Chief and general secretaries, is usually done through selection and not by election. Explaining it briefly the sources said the Congress high command seeks a panel of names from the PCC and then selects candidates for various posts.
